Welcome to the Web Rangers Digital Literacy Course – your gateway to becoming a confident, responsible and proactive digital citizen. Whether you're new to navigating the online world or already familiar with social media and the internet, this course will help you take your digital skills to the next level.
Through five engaging modules, you’ll explore what it means to be an active digital citizen, how to communicate effectively and safely online, and how to protect your privacy. You’ll also learn how to spot harmful online behaviour, understand your digital footprint, and even launch your own online safety campaign. By the end of this course, you'll be fully equipped with the skills and mindset needed to use the internet not only safely, but for good.
Each module includes bite-sized lessons, interactive quizzes, relatable real-life stories, and activities you can do on your own. You’ll also get a chance to apply what you’ve learnt by designing your own campaign for positive change – and stand a chance to win exciting prizes in the Web Rangers Campaign Competition!
Whether you’re creating your first piece of content or taking a stand against misinformation, this course helps you become part of a movement that’s shaping a better digital world for everyone in South Africa.
Requirements
To take part in this course, you don’t need to be a tech whiz – just bring an open mind and a willingness to learn! All you need is:

- Curiosity and a positive attitude
This course is designed for learners aged 13–18, but anyone keen to build safer, kinder online spaces is welcome.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will:

- Know how the internet and the web work, and how to use them for good
- Be aware of your digital footprint and how to manage it wisely
- Understand how online communication (including emojis, likes, shares and tags) can shape messages and perceptions
- Learn how to recognise and respond to misinformation and disinformation
- Know how to protect your privacy and understand your rights under South African digital law, including POPIA
- Understand the risks of cyberbullying, grooming, sexting, and how to protect yourself and others from cyber ills
- Gain the skills to launch your own online safety campaign and promote positive change in your community
